Animal Encounters in Education
We provide educational animal encounters and experiences for all ages and abilities – we cater for nurseries, schools, colleges and all other educational establishments in Cornwall and South Devon, of any size. Whether you want a particular ‘themed’ animal experience to fit in with curriculum requirements, or just a mixed selection to suit all tastes for a special treat, we can accommodate most requirements. From one off sessions, to a week of daily workshops, we have the flexibility to provide our animal encounters for any school programme. Our animal encounters and experiences for schools are huge fun, with just the right mix of informality combined with respect and consideration for the animals themselves. We provide entertaining talks, question and answer sessions, and the chance to touch or hold all of the animals. We pride ourselves in ensuring that the whole class gets involved, whilst having empathy with the nervous and timid – gentle encouragement is always the preferred way forward.
We are a Cornwall Association of Primary Heads approved supplier and you can find us in their directory https://www.caph.org.uk/web/classroom_resources
We are fully insured, licensed, and carry the appropriate risk assessments and DBS checks.
Recent reviews from schools where we have provided an educational animal encounter:
Our school booked an animal encounter with Talons Owltimate Encounters for November 2018. Throughout the booking process they were very friendly and amenable, and went to great detail about arrival and parking arrangements to ensure that their animals were able to be unloaded quickly and safely. They put a significant amount of thought into the range of animals they brought to the school, enquiring about topics in the school, and matching the animals closely to the children’s learning. The animals all appeared well cared for and were confidently handled by the Talons staff. They were especially thoughtful when dealing with creatures that some children were nervous or frightened of – giving clear advanced warning of what was coming next – no shock therapy of dropping a snake over someone’s neck here! They tailored the afternoon to different age groups, with more in depth information and questioning used with older children. There were opportunities throughout the afternoon for all children to encounter the creatures, often being able to stroke and hold the animals should they wish. All the children enjoyed the afternoon and left knowing considerably more about the animals shown. Talons were professional throughout the afternoon and we would look to book another encounter in the future.

Talons visited our Key Stage 1 classes yesterday with a wide range of animals. It was a fantastic experience for the children and was delivered professionally, as well as being pitched exactly at the right level. I would highly recommend this experience and we will definitely be asking them to come to our school again.

I just wanted to drop you a quick email to say a huge thank you for the visit from Talons today. All of the staff were highly impressed with the range of creatures the children got to see and in particular Matt’s ability to engage with such a young audience and share his knowledge of the creatures in such an accessible way for all of the children. He was so patient and considerate of their needs, fears and keenness. I would highly recommend Talons to other early years education providers and will certainly share our positive experience today with anyone I come into contact with!

Please can I take this opportunity to thank you for visiting Trenode Primary Academy on the 15th July. The whole school had an excellent experience and were totally engrossed in what you were showing and telling them. What an experience for these children to be able to have! You spoke to them so kindly and were so informative. The children have had so much fun telling their parents all about meeting and holding snakes, spiders, hedgehogs and skinny pigs… and, let’s not forget about the beautiful owl!
